Dickinson State won the Dakota Athletic Conference Commissioner’s Cup, the league’s all-sports award, for the 2008-09 school year.
The Blue Hawks finished with 120 points, having won six conference titles. Dickinson State won the DAC football, women’s basketball, men’s indoor and outdoor track, baseball and softball titles.
Black Hills State, with seven conference titles, finished second with 113 points. The Yellow Jackets won DAC titles in volleyball (a co-championship), men’s and women’s cross country, men’s basketball, women’s golf and women’s indoor and outdoor track).
Jamestown College finished third with 101 points. The Jimmies won a DAC co-championship in volleyball.
Minot State finished fourth with 96 points, winning the men’s golf title.
South Dakota Mines finished fifth with 62 points, followed by Dakota State (60), Valley City State (34) and Mayville State (27).
Shannon Walsh of Minot has signed a Dakota Athletic Conference letter of intent to play soccer at Jamestowen College.
A senior defender/midfielder for Minot High School, she serves as team captain. Originally from Hobbs, Minn., she moved to Minot following her sophomore year and missed her junior season due to a knee injury.
At Hobbs High School, she was a two-year letter winner and earned all-disrict first-team honors as a sophomore. She was also named the team’s defensive MVP. As a freshman, she helped her team to a district title.
She played club soccer for Crossfire (Minn.) from U-12 to U-18.
Jamestown is the No. 7 seed for the West Region baseball tournament, which opens on Thursday at Mandan’s Memorial Ballpark.
The Blue Jays take on No. 2 seed Dickinson in the opening round at 4 p.m. on Thursday.
No. 1 seed Minot opens the tournament against No. 8 Bismarck St. Mary’s at 11 a.m. on Thursday, followed by No. 4 Bismarck Century vs. No. 5 Bismarck at 1:30 p.m.
After the Blue Jays/Midgets contest, No. 3 Williston takes on No. 6 Mandan in the final opening-round contest at 6:30 p.m.
The top four teams advance to the state Class A tournament, set for May 28-30 at Jamestown’s Jack Brown Stadium.
