Jays earn spot in state title game

The Jamestown High School girls’ soccer team has advanced to the state championship game for the first time in school history.

The Blue Jays nipped Bismarck Century 2-1, a day after knocking off East Region champions Fargo North at the Fargo Soccer Complex.

Kaitlin Walsh scored both goals for the Blue Jays, who improved to 7-4-1 on the season.

It’s the first time a JHS team has been in a state championship game since the 1994 Blue Jay football team played in the Class A title game.

The Blue Jays will face South in the title game. The Bruins beat Fargo Shanley 1-0 in the other semifinal contest. The championship game will be played on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. at the Fargo North High School soccer field.

  1. Hey I think this is awesome for JHS, the soccer program, the girls, and the coaching staff! I do believe though, that the JHS wrestling team in 2000 wrestled for a state dual title and ended up placing 2nd. But, I guess wrestling isn’t a game and they don’t play.

  2. We checked with several people on Friday, and the last title game anyone could come up with was football in ’94. We’ll check on wrestling. We don’t have the most extensive archive system in the world. Basically, it’s go upstairs to the library and search through old copies of the paper by hand.
