Minot State will remain eligible for postseason competition and league awards.
The Dakota Athletic Conference presidents, meeting in Bismarck on Tuesday, decided to allow MSU to continue with business as usual while making a move to NCAA Division II.
League athletic directors had recommended that a league school exploring membership in another organization be disqualified from league postseason tournament and awards.
According to the AP, DAC commissioner LaVern Jessen said that the league’s constitution does not address the situation.
Minot State has announced it is applying to the NCAA for membership in Division II and the Beavers are hoping to gain entry into the Northern Sun Conference. Sioux Falls (S.D.) of the Great Plains Athletic Conference is also hoping to gain admission in the Northern Sun, which would expand to 16 teams with the addition of the Beavers and Cougars.
Jessen said that Minot State would remain a full member of the DAC for the next two years or until the school sends a letter withdrawing from the conference.
