Jimmies second in DAC volleyball poll

The Jamestown College volleyball team is picked second in the Dakota Athletic Conference preseason volleyball poll, voted on by league coaches.

Black Hills State, with six starters returning off a team that shared the regular-season title with the Jimmies last fall, got six of the seven first-place votes and totaled 49 points to finish No. 1.

The Jimmies, who shared the regular-season title and lost in five sets to the Yellow Jackets in the tournament final, got the other first-place vote and finished with 42 points.

First-year coach Jon Hegerle has four starters back for the Jimmies, who won 23 games last season.

Minot State and Mayville State finished third and fourth, respectively, in the voting.

Dakota State, Dickinson State, South Dakota Mines and Valley City State rounded out the poll.

Voting was done by league coaches and coaches could not vote for their own team.

The Jimmies open the 2009 season on Tuesday, Aug. 25 at the University of Mary.
