Twins within one game

The Minnesota Twins won the opening game of today’s doubleheader, beating Detroit 3-2 in 10 innings.

Going into tonight’s game, the Tigers are clinging to a one-game lead in the AL Central.

No matter what happens over the final six games of the season, it’s been an amazing run by Ron Gardenhire’s club over the last two weeks to get back in the race into the final week.

No Morneau, no Crede, no Slowey, the list goes on … and yet, here they are with a chance to move into first place.

Admit it, before the season started you firmly expected to see Nick Blackburn and Brian Duensing pitching meaningful late-September games in a pennant race with Matt Tolbert at third, Jose Morales at DH, Nick Punto at second and Michael Cuddyer at first.

Right?

Bonus points if you had Jon Rauch getting the win. But of course you did.
