With one week left in the regular season, the Dakota Athletic Conference football co-champs can do nothing but wait and hope.
The DAC (with the exception of South Dakota Mines’ game against Trinity Bible College) is finished with its season, but the NAIA regular season runs one more week.
The penultimate NAIA football poll was released on Monday, and Minot State (8-2) moved up three spots to No. 18, while Dickinson State (7-3) fell four spots to No. 20.
The final poll comes out on Sunday, and both teams need some help if they are going to make the playoffs.
With a head-to-head win over Minot during the season, Dickinson State should be in, if they are still in the Top 20 when the final poll comes out.
Minot State, meanwhile, figures to need to move up into the top 16 to have a shot at an at-large bid.
The final poll, and the 16-team playoff field, will be announced on Sunday.
Keep in mind, any DAC playoff entrant is likely to be sent on the road to No. 1 Sioux Falls or No. 2 Carroll for the opening round.
