Jays hang with South in loss

Actual victories are certainly preferred, but moral ones are definitely a step in the right direction and that was the case for the Blue Jay girls’ hockey team Tuesday night.
Jamestown got a sparkling performance from freshman goaltender Carissa Finck and as a result gave Fargo South all it wanted in a 2-1 season-opening loss to the Bruins at Wilson Arena.
The Blue Jays scored first and played all but the first two shifts of the game without top forward Lexy Hastings in an encouraging outing against one of the state’s top teams.
“Very, very pleased with the girls,” coach Brad Schaack said. “They’re a little bummed, but they did a lot of good things. There were definitely some good things we can build on going forward.”
