The JC men’s game is moving quickly and the Jimmies are up 42-25 at the half.
It was 24-23 with 6 minutes left, but 18 of the final 20 points of the half were scored by JC.
They look good with hot-shooting Jacob Kelsey leading the way. The senior from Texas has 16 points at the break.
44-25 now after a Peeters bucket.
A win over No. 22 Mines would be nice tonight for the Jimmies with No. 24 Black Hills State here Saturday night at 6 p.m.
The Jimmie women polished off South Dakota Mines 85-68 to improve to 14-3 on the season.
Fouls were the story of the this one, that took forever. The two teams combined for 51 infractions, with 28 being called on the Jimmies – I guess the persistent whining by South Dakota Mines coach Barb Felderman paid off.
It didn’t matter in the end result, however.
The fith-ranked Jimmie women were clearly better.
Ten players scored, led by Giuli Varriano’s 17 points.
The Jimmies host sixth-ranked Black Hills State today at 4 p.m. Some of the luster of that one was taken off Friday night when Valley City State handled the Yellow Jackets 55-46 in Valley Friday.
Still, they’ll still get it on Saturday at 4 p.m.
Giuli Varriano and Allison Epping each have 8 points to lead the fifth-ranked Jimmie women at the half.
The Jimmies lead 40-32.
They scored 8 of the first 10 points of the half, but South Dakota Mines rallied to lead by as many as 3 (16-13) with 12:30 left in the half.
But the Jimmies followed with a 19-7 run. The led by as many as 11 (40-29) before Natasha Begay banked in a three from the baseline to make it 40-32 at halftime.
The Jimmies are unbeaten at home (7-0) this season and have lost just once at the Civic Center the last two years.
If you’re brave/crazy enough to hack the weather, here is the menu in Jamesville tonight:
-College men’s and women’s basketball vs. South Dakota Mines, 5:30/7:30 p.m.
-High school boys’ and girls’ basketball vs. Dickinson: I’d list a time, but they never start on time anyways. Hopefully, the girls start by 6 p.m.
-High school gymanstic: KC Invite, 5 p.m. start at Jamestown Gymnastics Club.
-JHS girls’ hockey vs. Fargo North, 7 p.m., Wilson Arena.
Also tonight, there is JHS boys’ hockey in Dickinson; JC women’s wrestling in Iowa and Blue Jay wrestling at the Bismarck Rotary.
Other than that, it’s pretty slow. I’m sure the scheduling makes sense to someone, though.
