JC women survive

The fifth-ranked Jamestown College women’s basketball team survived a game battle from Black Hills State on Saturday at the Civic Center, 66-62.

The Jimmies also survived some shaky free throw shooting, missing 15 attempts from the stripe in the game, including six down the stretch.

But two makes late at the line from Kellie Schuneman gave the Jimmies a three-point lead and the Yellow Jackets missed a three to tie with 5 seconds left.

Schuneman added one more free throw with 1 second left to seal the Jimmies’ 15th win of the season and fourth in DAC play.

Giuli Varriano scored 15 of her 16 points in the first half and Katie O’Neill added 15, 13 coming in the second half.

The Jimmies play just once next week, traveling to Valley City to face the Vikings on Thursday.
