Qvale carries Grizzlies in loss

Former Williston High School standout Brian Qvale poured in 26 points, pulled down 13 rebounds and had 2 assists and 2 blocks, but it was not enough as Montana lost to New Mexico 62-57 in the opening round of the NCAA tournament on Thursday night in San Jose, Calif.

Qvale accounted for nearly half of the Grizzlies’ total. His 26 points were a career high.
Montana, seeded 14th in the West Region, finished the season at 22-10.

New Mexico, the No. 3 seed in the West, was led by Roman Martinez with 19 points as they improved to 30-4. They face Washington in the second round on Saturday.
