Carrington wins Class B crown

MINOT, N.D. (AP) — Fifteen years later, Carrington can add a second state title to its trophy case after defeating Berthold 65-59 on Saturday in the championship game of the North Dakota boys Class B basketball tournament.
Devin Barton, the tournament MVP, scored 18 points and grabbed nine rebounds as the Cardinals (26-2) fended off a late charge by the Bombers.
Berthold battled back from a 12-point deficit, pulling within 60-59 with 50 seconds left on a four-point play by Matt Yale. But Carrington iced the win at the free throw line.
Easton Page finished with 17 points for Carrington, which won its first state title in 1995.
Matt Yale led the Bombers (26-2) with 23 points, nine rebounds and six assists. Daniel Yale added 13 points and 10 rebounds. It was the fourth runner-up finish in school history for Berthold, the others coming in 1972, 1980 and 2002.
