Mary sweeps JC softball

The University of Mary swept Jamestown College 9-1 and 13-5 on Tuesday in Bismarck in fastpitch action.

Kate Street suffered just her second loss of the season in the opener, falling to 8-2.

The Jimmies had 10 hits in Game 1. Celene Eccles, Courtney Wong, Ashley Smoke and Becky Lewis had two each. The Jimmies finished with 10 hits.

Wong had 2 more hits in the nigthcap, but the D-II Marauders scored in all 5 of their at bats.

The Jimmies fell to 12-6 overall, while Mary is now 15-9.

The Jimmies play at home Wednesday when they host Northern State at 2 p.m., another D-II team.

Jimmies receive votes in NAIA baseball poll

Jamestown College is the only team from the northern part of the country mentioned in the first NAIA baseball poll of the season.

The streaking Jimmies, who have won 7 straight and are 14-3 overall, got 37 votes in the poll released on Tuesday, 7 more than they got in the preseason poll released on Nov. 17.

Eight teams are ahead of the Jimmies in the receiving votes category. Milligan College (Tenn.) is the final team in the top 25 with 126 votes.

The Jimmies open Dakota Athletic Conference play this weekend with doubleheaders against Mayville State on Friday and Saturday. They’re scheduled to play their first home game on Monday at 1 p.m., against Valley City State in one 9-inning non-conference game.
