Another weekend, another significant achievement for Whitney Carlson.
The Buchanan native became just the third North Dakota State athlete to win an event at the prestigious Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa, on Saturday.
Carlson, who holds five NDSU outdoor records, further extended her school-best mark in the long jump, winning the event with a leap of 21-1 1/2. Her old record was 21-1 1/4 set last year. The jump is currently tied for fourth in the entire nation.
The only other two Bison women to win events at the Drake Relays are Laura Hermanson, who claimed the 800 last year, and Kinsey Coles, who took the 800 in 2004.
Carlson, a junior, holds the NDSU outdoor records in the 100, 100 hurdles, 400 hurdles, long jump and sprint medley relay. She owns the top indoor marks in the 60 hurdles, long jump and pentathlon.
She is the daughter of Kevin and Deb Carlson.
