Gophers, Twins sweep

Nice night for Minnesota baseball teams Friday night/Saturday morning.

The Gophers just defeated perennial power Cal-State Fullerton 3-1 in Fullerton, Calif., in opening-round play of the NCAA tournament.

Its the biggest baseball win for the U of M in probably 20 years or more.

They face New Mexico Saturday night at 10 p.m. in winner’s bracket play on ESPNU.

It means the Gophers are 2 wins from advanving to the NCAA Super Regionals, which are best 2 out of 3 next weekend. They’ll likely have to beat Cal-State Fullerton again either Sunday or Monday to advance.

Big Seth Rosin was lights out for 8 innings. He’s a future MLBer with a mid 90s fastball.

Meanwhile, in Oakland the Twins snapped their 3-game skid with a 5-4 win in 11 innings over the A’s.

Leading AL MVP candidate Justin Morneau hit his 13th home run.

Fantasy-wise, I got saves from J.Broxton and N.Feliz, so this was a good night. I’m going to sleep well now.

Good night friends.
