Enderlin takes AA

Tom Klapp fired a 3-hit shutout and had 10 Ks to lead Enderlin past Groton, S.D., 6-0 in the state Class AA amateur tournament championship game Sunday.

Klapp also had three hits as the Indies finished 3-0 in the tournament, outscoring their oppnents 25-1.

The amateur baseball season comes to a close this weekend with the Class AAA tournament, beginning Thursday.

More to come on that tournament in coming days.

Also, we’re hoping for slightly more tolerable weather conditions next weekend. Please, Mom Nature?

Amateur state championship games today

Yes, it’s going to be brutal out again today, but come out and support these fellows who play because they love the game.

Baseball is hard, especially when get older - save Barry Bonds and his magical growing head and back full of zits. Yet these guys go out and play pretty well, while people like me, who should be playing, sit around and get soft.

So today at 1 p.m. at Jack Brown Stadium, Grace City faces the Valley City Merchants at 1 p.m. in the Class A championship.

The Class AA title tilt follows around 3 p.m., with Enderlin taking on Groton, S.D. Enderlin went 2-0 on Saturday, allowing just 1 run in 12 innings.

Come on out and get yourself a fabulous tasting hot dog from R.D. Brown’s concession stand. The games are well played, only 7 innings long and last less than 2 hours.

It will be worth your time, even with the temperatures a blazing.

It is hot …

Fairview beat Fairmount 9-4 in Game 4 of the Class AA state tournament.

Enderlin, which plays in each of the last 2 games, is currently playing Fairview. The Indies wrap up the night againt Fairmount – that one will not be starting before 9 p.m., most likely, as we are way behind.

It is brutally hot here. This may be the last update, we’ll see.

I’m so hot I think I’m starting to see mermaids and unicorns frolicking joyfully together in the outfield.

After 4.5 innings

Grace City leads Hazen-Beulah 1-0.

We have only 1 hit combined so far.

I’m running out of steam as it pertains to amateur baseball, luckily there are only 6 games scheduled for Saturday.

Spahn and Sain and pray for rain, anyone?

Twins beat an AL East team, finally

They beat Tampa Bay 2-1 in 12 Wednesday. New deadlines kept the final out of our pages, so here is a little, anyways. The two teams play at 11 a.m. Thursday morning.

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) — Delmon Young had a tiebreaking RBI single in the 13th inning as the Minnesota Twins beat the Tampa Bay Rays 2-1 on Wednesday night.

Alexi Casilla opened the 13th by drawing a walk from Lance Cormier (3-3) and advanced to third on Joe Mauer’s single. Young then made it 2-1 on a single to left.

Matt Guerrier (2-6) threw two perfect innings. He had lost all three of his previous appearances against Tampa Bay this year.

The Rays tied it at 1 in the ninth when Evan Longoria hit a leadoff double off Matt Capps and scored on Dan Johnson’s one-out single. Cormier, pitching for the first time since July 20, allowed one run and three hits in four innings.

Tampa Bay lost for just the second time in 12 games. The Twins have won 9 of 11.

We’re playing …

amateur baseball in Jamestown – the Class A state tournament with Tolna taking on the Valley City Merchants.

Early on, it’s the Merchants of VC leading Tolna, 1-0.

This is a tough ticket, so if you want a seat get out here now.

State A amateur tournament update

1 small change. The Cooperstown Bombers are replacing the Jamestown Greyhounds in the Class A field, which begins Wednesday here.

I lived in Cooperstown for a couple of years as a youth, near the water tower. I/we turned the area around the water tower into a baseball diamond – it was pretty sweet.

It should be renamed Selvig Memorial Park. I was great there, not good, great, and humble, too.
